SAKEBARO HIGASHIYAMA Grand Opening — April 8
Today, April 8, we are opening SAKEBARO HIGASHIYAMA along the serene banks of Shirakawa in Kyoto. Looking back, the journey to this point has been far from smooth. From the impact of the pandemic to the withdrawal from Shanghai, there were many moments when progress felt almost impossible. And yet, through a series of coincidences and small miracles, we encountered this space—one that feels like it was meant to be.
SAKEBARO HIGASHIYAMA 4月8日オープン
本日4月8日、京都・白川の畔に「SAKEBARO HIGASHIYAMA」がオープンいたします。ここまでのさまざまな経緯を振り返ると、コロナ禍や上海撤退などの事情もあり、なかなか前へ進めないしんどい時期があったりと、たくさんの思いが込み上げてきます。そして数々の偶然と奇跡により、この場所に出会えたことに運命的なものを感じています。
A Quiet Corner by the Shirakawa River
Tucked away just off a narrow lane beside the Shirakawa stream, the new space lies quietly within a residential neighborhood steeped in silence. We hope that from the very moment you find your way to the entrance, you’ll begin to feel the sense of drifting away from the everyday—a subtle disorientation of the senses, like wandering into another realm.
白川のほとりの静かな 住宅街
お店は白川の川の流れから少し路地に入った、沈黙と静けさに包まれた住宅街の中にあります。お店を見つけていただくその瞬間から、現実から離れたような心や感性が迷い込むような不思議な体験をしていただけたらと思っています。
HIGASHIYAMA as a Flagship
SAKEBARO HIGASHIYAMA is a culmination—a flagship expression that refines and evolves everything we’ve explored in our journey with SAKEBARO thus far. It embodies the concepts and the atmosphere we've always cherished and aspired to bring to life.
While Kyoto is full of beautifully modernized machiya-style spaces, we’ve chosen a different path—one that invites guests to experience "the past" in a way that is reimagined, not simply replicated. Through light, materials, and architectural rhythm, we hope guests can sense what it might have felt like to spend a night in the Edo or Azuchi-Momoyama periods. A kind of quiet darkness, a moment suspended in time.
フラッグシップとしてのHIGASHIYAMA
HIGASHIYAMAは、“これまでのSAKEBARO”の体験や経験をさらに練り上げ、進化させたフラッグシップの位置づけです。僕たちが大切にしてきたコンセプトや空間づくりをすべて形にできたお店です。 京都には、現代的に洗練させた町家スタイルの空間が多いですが、僕たちは異なる方向から、“昔を体験してもらう”ということを再構築・提案してます。江戸時代や安土桃山時代に思いを馳せて、照明や建物の構造によって「昔の日本の夜って、こんな暗さの中だったのかな」と感じられる空間を目指しています。
Counter and Zashiki
The space features a counter on the first floor and a SAKEBARO-style zashiki (tatami seating) on the second. But this zashiki is not traditional in the usual sense—it’s a room softly lit by candlelight, drawing inspiration from an era when warriors would gather, drink boldly from large plates, and speak their minds.
We imagined the kind of place where one might mourn fallen comrades or make weighty decisions before battle. Of course, in today's world, our “battles” are different—business strategies, life-altering conversations, or heartfelt exchanges with those we deeply care about. This is a space where such moments can unfold slowly, without pretense. A place for honesty, gravity, and depth.
カウンターとお座敷
HIGASHIYAMAは1階がカウンター、2階がSAKEBAROらしいコンセプトを盛り込んだお座敷の構成です。従来のお座敷とは少し趣が異なり、蝋燭の灯りの中で、武士の時代の少し無骨な緊張感の中で酒をかっくらうイメージです。 無骨に大皿で日本酒を飲みながら本音を語り合う……武士たちが合戦の会合や戦死し た故人を憂うとき、人生を賭けた決断を下す場面を思い浮かべていただけるような、“静かな重み”を感じる空間を意識しています。そして現代の“合戦”とも言えるビジネスの戦略の話や、大切な人を招いて人生を左右する話をする場として、語り合っていただければと思っています。
A New Challenge, and Deep Gratitude
This year marks the 10th anniversary of SAKEBARO. In that time, we’ve been lucky to be surrounded by people who have watched over and supported our evolution. We've learned and grown immensely, and to now open a new chapter in Kyoto’s Higashiyama feels profoundly meaningful.
We sincerely hope you will continue to walk with us—through SAKEBARO Tokyo, Fukuoka, and now, Kyoto HIGASHIYAMA. We look forward to welcoming you.
